Luther “Lou” Medina, Jr. began his career in a unionized sheet metal industry in 1987 when he joined the apprenticeship program in Los Angeles, California. Upon graduation, he received the apprenticeship’s award for perfect school attendance during his four years of apprenticeship training.
Lou worked with the tools of the trade in the capacity of journeyman and foreman for several of our signatory contractors both in the HVAC and general and architectural sheet metal industries. In 1996, he was elected to the position of Local Union Trustee, and in 1998 was elected as an Executive Board Member for Local Union 108. In early 1999, Lou was appointed by Business Manager Roy Ringwood to the full time position of Local Union Organizer.
After the merger of Local Union 108 and Local Union 102, Lou was appointed to the position of Director of Organizing for the newly formed Local Union 105 in early 2001. He held that position until his election to Business Representative in June 2004. In May 2005, Lou was honored to receive the “Joe Hill” Organizing Award for his contributions to organizing in the construction sector by the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Organizing Committee.
Lou holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Labor Studies from the National Labor College at the George Meany Center for Labor Studies in Silver Spring, Maryland. He is also proud to be a second generation union sheet metal worker.
